ACTIVITIES OF THE UNDERGROUND UKRAINIAN RED CROSS IN THE UPA RANKS ON THE TERRITORY OF GALICIA IN THE SECOND HALF OF 1940S.

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to carry out a comprehensive and objective coverage of the activities of the underground Ukrainian Red Cross in the territory of the Stanislav region in the second half of the 1940s. To consider the historical conditions in which the researched structure functioned, to analyze the main directions of the work of this organization and to characterize the interaction of the Red Cross with the local population .

The methodological basis of the research is the general scientific principles of objectivity, comprehen- siveness and historicism. The work uses problem-chronological, logical and comparative methods.

The article highlights the functioning of the underground Ukrainian Red Cross. The main directions of the organization’s work on the territory of Prykarpattia were analyzed. The peculiarities of the process of training medical personnel in the second half of the 1940s are characterized. In particular, the following are considered: the number of course participants, their duration, and the settlements in the vicinity of which Red Cross participants were most often trained. The main ways of providing the organization with medicines and medical equipment in the territory of the Stanislav region were analyzed. The attempts of the underground Red Cross to organize assistance to relatives of repressed members of the underground are highlighted. The historical conditions in which the company operated are characterized. The structure of the Red Cross in the region and its management team were considered. The interaction of the organization with the local population is highlighted. The activities of the Soviet punitive structures against the members of the society are analyzed. The process of liquidation of the departments of the underground Ukrainian Red Cross in the lands of Prykarpattia is characterized.

The considered activity of the underground Ukrainian Red Cross in the territory of the Stanislav region in the second half of the 1940s, despite constant repression by the Soviet punitive authorities, was an important component in the process of ensuring the functioning of the national liberation movement on Prykarpattia.
