Summary. The aim of the study is to determine the condition and functional purpose of outdoor sports
grounds of educational institutions of the Sumy urban territorial community. Material and methods: literature
analysis, methods of evaluating the parameters of the functional purpose of outdoor sports grounds. 19 outdoor
sports grounds were subject to inspection from June to September 2022. Results. As a result of the study, the
highest score (7.88 points) was given to the group of indicators “accessibility/security”, the lowest score was
obtained for such a group of characteristics as “welfare/comfort” – 5.27 points. On most sports grounds, 3 to 4
functional zones are provided for a certain type of motor activity. In many functional areas of the playgrounds,
there is not enough suitable sports equipment. On a significant number of sports grounds, a permanent source of
noise from transport or economic facilities was found. Only 10% of the sites are equipped with special artificial
lighting, which usually does not function to its full extent due to wear and tear or physical damage. This actually
makes it impossible to carry out many types of motor activity in the dark. Practically all outdoor sports grounds
lack specially equipped toilets, sources of drinking water, and trash cans or containers. The functional condition
or the complete absence of specially equipped seats is unsatisfactory. The presence of extraneous footpaths that
run through the functional zones of the sports ground significantly worsen the conditions for physical exercises.
