Conceptual view on the life in the 90s in prof. Roman Hromiak’s memoirs «Vertep» and «Vertep-2»: narrative and poetics
Aim. The paper focuses on the conceptual views on life of renowned Ukrainian scholar Roman Hromiak (1937-2013) presented in his diaries Vertep-1 (1992) and Verteo-2 (1995) and studied through poetics. Research methodology. The analysis was conducted using the synthesis of the fundamental research methods and principles, including hermeneutic, text, typological, poetic and biographic methods in their interrelations and complementarity. Study results. The paper, in a successive and comprehensive manner, reveals the scholar’s social, political and philosophical views on life and on the individual, living this life, in the early 90s of the 20th century. The paper also highlights the specifics and poetics of the author’s discourse, stresses its sense formation function which made it possible to better comprehend the historical significance of Vertep-1 (1992) and Vertep-2 (1995), proven to be a unique and large-scale human document of the initial period of the independent Ukraine’s establishment. Scientific novelty. The research via poetics helped characterize R. Hromiak’s contribution to the scientific understanding of the Ukrainian milestone specifics through the linguistic accents, social and psychological condition of an individual and his/her behavior and also through the self-revelation of the author-narrator. The attention is focused on the natural combination of the objective description with publicistic fragments by means of (poly)dialogue situations. Practical significance. The results may be used for further study of the Ukrainian history through a human document, while making comparison with the testimony of other writers like D. Pavlychko, I. Drach and others who were public speakers and published critical articles. The research itself and its results may serve as a basis for lectures on History of Ukrainian Literature of the 20th century and Theory of Literature, as well as when teaching Ukrainian Literature and Fiction at schools.
