Abstract

Defining the foundations of the Ukrainian-Canadian security partnership in the current context is part of a broader study of Ukraine's role in Canada's security policy. Today, both sides demonstrate a high level of mutual understanding and cooperation in the international arena, and are actively working to resolve priority security issues.
The article outlines the main principles of cooperation between Kyiv and Ottawa in the field of security, which is based on a high level of political mutual understanding in the spirit of special partnership; common values in the areas of security and international cooperation; common approaches to identifying and counteracting current threats to international security; cooperation in the context of assistance to Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia; cooperation within NATO and other international organizations and collective security structures.
Canada's security and defense policy has traditionally been driven by the privileged nature of bilateral cooperation with the United States, the European Union, and active political dialogue within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance and other collective security structures. This specificity determines the special value of Ukrainian-Canadian security cooperation in the context of coordinating positions with the most influential international actors. Ottawa's public support for Ukraine's position in the international arena is important for the effective promotion of Ukrainian national interests in the regional and
global dimensions.
