The role of the border in Polish-Ukrainian relations

Abstract

The article deals with the basic approaches to delineation of the border and border regions based on the analysis of scientific works of leading foreign scientists. Borderlands Studies actively began to develop in the second half of the XX century. an attention of researchers in this area focused on the borders on the European continent that arose after the Second World War.

Mainly was analyzed the theories and concepts of the functioning and role of borders in relations between neighbouring countries, classification of borders based on the types of countries and border regions, and border functions. The main attention focused on the Ukrainian-Polish border. Mainly, the length of the Ukrainian border with the neighbouring countries was analysed and the deviation of this length was found. The main legislative acts regulating the functioning of the Polish-Ukrainian border are described, as well as the main stages of regulation of the Ukrainian-Polish cross-border cooperation. The analysis of the
problem of border checkpoint at the Polish-Ukrainian border, as well as the prospects of development and cooperation in this direction.
