Abstract

This paper examines the role of Ukraine in relations between the Vatican and the Russian an empire in the late XVIII – early XX centuries. Analyzed the position which was the Catholic and the Uniate churches as a result of the partitions of Poland (1772–1795 biennium) and is illustrated the difference of their position within a empire. The author traces the changing role of Ukrainian Uniate Church and the “Ukrainian question” in relations Apostolic See and the Russian Empire.
